Artist's Statement - Adrian Gilbert
'I observe, I think, I dream, I imagine, I keep a journal, I irritate myself, I draw and paint, I invent ways to overcome or go around perceived difficulties, I rediscover the ways that perceptions and conceptions change, I always look for graphic excitement and general artistic veracity, I present my stuff for others appraisal, I celebrate or drown my sorrows - therefore I am an 'artist'!' (AG 09)
Adrian Gilbert has continued to think and work in a provocative manner throughout his 40 year (so far) career as a professional artist.
His images are diverse in origin but cumulatively add up to a body of work with distinctive style.
His technical virtuosity allows him to explore a wide range of graphic possibilities and personal idiosyncrasies with originality, boldness and courage - and often with great subtlety and beauty as well.
