RUTH LE CHEMINANT

Artist's Statement - Ruth le Cheminant

The work of Ruth le Cheminant is a wonderful colourful, layered contemporary work that invites, holds the attention and engages the viewer. There is energy in the paintings and the layering of the colours, the use of gesture and placement within the frame ensures the work delights.

When Ruth le Cheminant walks into her studio she has a concept in mind of what to paint but doesn't have any preconceived ideas about how she will paint her next piece. Her method is based on innate response to the process and a natural talent to understand the nuances of colour and gesture.

The painting process is to Ruth like 'having a conversation with the canvas that only finishes when the composition is resolved and the painting satisfies'.

Ruth studied at the National Art School and later completed Postgraduate study at the University of New South Wales.

Ruth was invited to exhibit in a group exhibition 'Out From Down Under & Beyond: Fine Art from Australia and New Zealand' at Agora Gallery, Chelsea, New York in May 2009 and further to that her paintings are now being displayed in the foyer of the William Morris Agency, New York. Ruth has exhibited widely and has a place in many collections.
